RESIDENCIES + FUNDING:

Loupe in Hong Kong is calling for jewellery designers to apply for their residencies. International designers, apply here before December 9th 2019 (roundtrip travel expenses covered & housing provided for designers not already living in Hong Kong), local designers, apply here before January 3rd 2020.

$50,000 prize for architecture proposals to redesign a former tobacco factory in Nanjing. Submit proposals here by December 15 2019.

The Goethe Institute is calling for performing artists living in Germany to come to Beijing for a fully funded residency. Apply before December 15 2019.

The Guangzhou Times Museum and the Factory in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam are calling for submissions for their reciprocal residency program All The Way South. Artists from China, apply here before December 25th 2019.

Residency Unlimited's annual residency raffle is partnering with Points Center for Contemporary Art in Kunshan. Purchase tickets for a chance to win a fully-funded residency by November 21 2019. They are also accepting applications for spring residencies through their open call, apply before February 20 2020.

Yan Garden in Dongguan is open for artists for their 3rd and 4th period of residencies, from 1 January to 29 February 2020 and 1 April to 31 May 2020, respectively. Apply before February 20 2020.

In-Situ Residency in Hong Kong are looking for artists and designers from November 2019 onwards. Apply anytime.

YAC in Tianjin is inviting artists for printmaking residencies.

Three Shadows in Beijing & Xiamen seeking photographers, filmmakers, video artists, and other new media creators. Apply anytime.

The Hong Kong Art Gallery Association's Artist Residency Abroad Funding Scheme provides up to HK$15,000 for Hong Kong artists seeking artist residencies abroad. Applications accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed quarterly, and artists should apply to their own residency programs prior to applying.

Artists traveling on a #slowtrain to or in China can apply anytime for a virtual residency to take over our Instagram account.

The Prince Claus Mobility Fundin cooperation with Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), accepts applications throughout the year to support travel within Asia and between the Bangladesh, Pakistan, Cambodia, Philippines, Lao DPR, Vietnam, Myanmar, China, India, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Thailand and Europe. It is specifically intended for emerging artists and cultural practitioners living in and travelling from countries listed above. Apply here at least three months before intended start date.

A4 Residency is having an open call for artists or art groups with over 3 years of experience in art creation or curation for May - December 2020.

The Guangzhou Times Museum, The Chinese in Africa/Africans in China (CA/AC) Research Network, and Arts of Africa & Global Souths Research Program invite African and Chinese artists working with any visual arts medium to participate in a workshop for Global Souths artists at the 6th Conference of the CA/AC that will be held at Lingnan University, Hong Kong from 9 to 11 July 2020.  Apply here by December 25th 2019 (extended from November 30th!)

RESEARCH ~ PAPERS, WORKSHOPS & CONFERENCES:

CHAT Center for Heritage Arts & Textile is granting a $60,000 HKD research grant to engage in new ways of narrating Hong Kong’s textile industry. The successful applicant is expected to produce a research paper of 8,000-12,000 words. Submit proposals here by November 30th.

Triple Canopy is seeking English translations of works of fiction to be published online. Apply here before December 9th.

Parasite in Hong Kong is seeking curatorial proposals from emerging curators, and applicants who are emerging curators, writers, critics, researchers, and other arts professionals from Hong Kong and abroad for a 9 day intensive workshop. Apply before January 5 2020.

Queer Asia Conference is seeking submissions for their June 12th gathering at SOAS London. Send in 300 word abstracts or short film/art submissions here by January 30 2020.

Museum2050 is calling for papers around the theme of "Cultural Alliances: The Imperatives and Challenges of Collaboration" for their conference at the He Museum in Shunde, Guangdong on May 15-16 2020. Submit here by February 7 2020.

TALKS, FESITVALS & EVENTS:

The Fresh Milk Art Platform, China Residencies, The Barbados Museum and Historical Society, CACHE Space and Alice Yard are screening recent film and video works by contemporary artists practicing in the Caribbean, China and their diasporas for the third edition of Transoceanic Visual Exchange (TVE), a series of programming taking place between Barbados, China, and Trinidad & Tobago in November, details here.
